Launch of the National Collegiate Grappling Association (NCGA)

The world of collegiate combat sports is expanding with the historic launch of the National Collegiate Grappling Association (NCGA). Founded by Jim Giunta, the President of the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA), and in partnership with Entrepreneur / Producer Blair Green, Executive Director of USA Grappling, the NCGA becomes the first-ever national governing body (NGB) dedicated exclusively to grappling at the collegiate level.
What is Grappling?
Grappling is an inclusive, multi-disciplinary form of non-striking combat sports. The NCGA encompasses a variety of grappling styles, including:
- Folkstyle and Freestyle Wrestling
- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
- Sambo
- Catch Wrestling.
- Judo
- Greco-Roman Wrestling
The NCGA is proud to unite these disciplines under one collegiate framework, offering student-athletes nationwide a new path to competition, growth, and recognition.
Registration Opens April 1, 2025
Beginning April 1st, 2025, colleges and universities across the country may officially register their teams and athletes with the NCGA. This marks a significant step forward for institutions looking to provide more athletic opportunities in the rapidly growing field of grappling.
National Championships & Competition Calendar
The inaugural NCGA National Championships are scheduled for October 24–25, 2025. While the location will be announced soon, preparations are already underway for what promises to be a milestone event in collegiate grappling.
In addition to the national tournament, state and regional championships are in the works for the fall school year, giving teams across the U.S. the chance to compete and qualify for national honors.
Nationwide Participation
Teams from coast to coast have already expressed interest, from Washington and California, through Texas, and across to Florida, up the East Coast from Georgia to Maine. The momentum is building for a truly national platform for grappling in higher education.
