Southwest Conference Approves Four New Texas Programs
DALLAS, TX — The National Collegiate Grappling Association (NCGA) proudly announces the expansion of its Southwest Conference (SWC) with the addition of four major Texas universities: The University of Texas, Sam Houston State University, Texas A&M University, and Tarleton State University.
The inclusion of these powerhouse institutions strengthens the SWC’s footprint across the region, which now encompasses five states — Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Sam Houston State University has been selected to host the 2025 Southwest Conference Championships on Saturday, October 25, where men’s and women’s collegiate grapplers will compete for conference titles and top national seeds.
Outstanding performers from the SWC Championships will earn prime placements in the inaugural NCGA National College Grappling Championships, set for November 15, 2025, at Louisiana State University–Shreveport.
“The addition of these four Texas universities represents tremendous growth for the NCGA and for collegiate grappling nationwide,” said Jim Giunta, Executive Director of the NCGA. “Their participation elevates the level of competition and provides more student-athletes the opportunity to compete at a national level.”
The NCGA continues to build momentum heading into its first national championship, uniting college programs from across the country in the sport’s newest and fastest-growing collegiate division.
